Declaration of Intent
A city with a TROUBLED PAST. A city of HARDSHIPS. A city of POLITICAL MISTRUST.
A city of CHANGE.
A city of HOPE. A city of OPPORTUNITY. A city of PRIDE.
A new city of the PEOPLE.
ECCOdetroit is an organization that understands the beauty of Detroit’s past, present and future. The City is home to artists, musicians, community leaders, activists and volunteers that are vigilant in their aspirations for prosperity. ECCOdetroit will serve as a forum for the collective exchange of resources and information, facilitating the engagement of residents of the metropolitan area through cultural, civic, art and music events that increase awareness about issues in the Detroit community.
Executive Summary
There are thousands of Detroiters who work every day to make our City a better place – a place where the voice of the community is heard – a place where future generations can share in the pride that is Detroit.
ECCOdetroit, from the Italian word ‘ecco’ meaning ‘here it is’, intends to show citizens the depth of Detroit’s character (for better or worst) by connecting residents with the unique communities that are working for the good of our City. Our hope is to raise awareness of the real Detroit for those in the Southeast Michigan area, the Midwest region and across the Nation – to illuminate the art, culture, history and innovation that are the core of Detroit’s pride and soul.
ECCOdetroit’s mission is to connect community activists and organizations to each other and to the residents of Detroit’s neighborhoods to create and achieve mutual goals through outreach, fundraising, promotion and education. An educated and active citizenry can make a difference, and ECCOdetroit provides the forum for all members of the Detroit community to meet, share information and learn from each other. Events like fundraisers, art openings, music performances, community clean-up days, community visioning sessions or informational sessions are just a few of the ways ECCOdetroit seeks to heighten awareness of issues that effect the future of Detroit.
For those 800,000+ residents that believe in the future of Detroit, ECCOdetroit is here, and we hope you will get involved. Join us in the opportunity, hope and pride that define our new city of the people – a new city of Detroit. |
